Happy Birthday Emily!

Today Emily turned 2 years old. We did our normal Monday things together-- grocery shopping, laundry, etc. I let her watch a couple of her favorite cartoon videos, and she got to go to the bus stop when April came home from school-- one of her very favorite things to do. In the afternoon, the girls and I made chocolate cupcakes for Emily's birthday. Emily got to help stir the batter while April put the ingredients in the bowl.
I made a mac & cheese taco dish that is a hit with almost everyone in our family. I say "almost" because Emily has become a very picky eater lately. She did eat about a dozen noodles from her plate, but refused anymore than that. Whenever I insist she eat her dinner, she will shake her head, hold up her hands in front of her and say, "Um-mmm! Can't, can't!" Hmmm, I wonder whom she got that from (I have my suspicions!)
After dinner tonight we opened up our game table, which is an endtable with a storage space we keep all our games in. Emily pulled out Candy Land and some Go Fish cards. Emily doesn't know the rules for Candy Land, but she loves to make the gingerbread men zoom along the rainbow paths, back and forth. The cards get thrown around while she shrieks with laughter. We are fortunate to have two packs of Go Fish cards. April likes to play this game with us. Emily also likes to join in, but she always hogs the cards from the "pond" and the rest of us can never finish the game. So we give Emily her own set of fish cards and play a game with the second set.
Dessert was the chocolate cupcakes, with chocolate frosting and rainbow sprinkles. We had to light the candles twice, because Emily blew them out before I could take a picture or we could sing Happy Birthday. Emily got lots of fun toys and had fun playing with everything. April had a lot of fun with them, too!
Thank you to everyone who sent birthday presents, cards and email cards, and phone calls.
