My latest read is a publications of letters written by Marjorie Pay Hinckley, wife of Gordon B. Hinckley, current president of the LDS Church. Sister Hinckley passed away in April 2004, and soon after her children decided to publish some of her letters in this book.
It's a wonderful life composition, showing a woman at all stages of life: as a young wife and mother, as a daughter, as a grandmother, as the wife and companion of a frequent-traveling General Authority of the LDS church. Sister Hinckley has a funny sense of humor and lots of wit that shows through her descriptions of everyday life as well as exciting adventures during her world travels.

Sister Hinckley describes the groundbreaking ceremony for a new building at Brigham Young University (referred to as the "Y".) Her way of playing down such an shocking affair had me rolling out of my chair in laughter!November 8, 1980
Yesterday Dad was the speaker at the groundbreaking for the Eldon Tanner building at the Y... It was quite an elaborate affair with a special erected platform, sound system, and flowers for the ladies. Instead of the usual shovel-turning ceremonies or tractor digging, the first dirt was removed with a "small" stick of dynamite. It turned out to be much more than the slight thud they had expected. Rocks flew through the air, one hitting a young woman about 10 feet from me, and she fell to the ground as if dead. For a few paralyzing moments everyone just stood until it was determined that it was not as serious as had been feared. The ambulance came and took her away, put her arm in a sling, and she turned up in the president's box at the football game a few hours later.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Such an extraordinary woman with such simple, straightforward things to say about life.
